Approximately 35 years after the discovery of a five-year-old boy’s body near his home in South Carolina, the boy’s father and stepmother have been taken into custody and charged with his murder, authorities announced. Victor Lee Turner and Megan Lee Turner, previously known as Pamela, were detained on Wednesday for their involvement in the 1989 death of Justin Lee Turner. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office in Moncks Corner reopened the investigation in 2021, as stated in their press release.
In April 2021, the case was revisited to consider the use of new or previously unapplied technological methods. This led to a reexamination of the physical evidence from the original crime scene and autopsy. The reassessed evidence was then sent to forensic pathologists and the forensic laboratory of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for further analysis, as detailed in the sheriff’s statement.
According to an affidavit, investigators suspect that the boy’s death occurred either in the late hours of March 2 or the early morning of March 3, 1989. Two days following the report of his disappearance, detectives discovered Justin’s body within the truck camper belonging to the couple, located on their family property near their residence, as stated in the affidavits
