The actions of Kristel Candelario are utterly despicable. She abandoned her 16-month-old child alone in a playpen for 10 days while she selfishly vacationed in Puerto Rico and Detroit. Her heinous neglect led to the child’s death, for which she was rightfully sentenced to life in prison. The testimony of forensic pathologist Elizabeth Mooney at the sentencing painted a harrowing picture of the child’s excruciating suffering due to abandonment, starvation, and extreme thirst—a level of torment that is unfathomable and abhorrent.
This makes us SICK on every level.
